So what was I doing here? Absolutely nothing really. I wasn’t really ‘locking’ any content, I wasn’t offering anything unique. What I was doing was betting on the fact that we (as affiliates) usually think web users are more web savvy than they usually are. This is the same reason why crappy looking landing pages, and really basic ad copy work best. You really don’t need to outsmart your potential converters, sometimes you need to figure out how to dumb things down (or in this case just make it dumb).

That’s just an image I made (in Photoshop) linked to one offer. One thing I did was insert the bidded keyword in the ‘search’ box like so.
Final thoughts
We’ve gone ahead and stared collecting all the various case studies and strategy threads that have been posted over the years.
This is an on going project. 6+ Years is a lot of material to sort through and gather. If you know of something that should be in here drop us a link. As time goes on we’ll be adding more to this list and doing a better job organizing it. For now we just wanted to get it out there for you all to take advantage of.
The main idea behind these threads are to give you an idea of what campaigns look like and what people have done with them. The point isn’t to copy them but to use them as inspiration for new ideas and to see that people out there are making it work day in and day out. Some of these case studies are old and might seem outdated but they are still important! Poor through them, tear them apart, learn from them and then go out there and take action.
If you have any questions about a particular cast study / strategy click the link in red at the end of each section. It will take you to the original thread where you can ask your questions.
There is also a lot of value reading through the comments, questions, and discussions in each thread so if you find a particular case study interesting make sure you go and read through the thread. Clicking on the questions link at the end will take you to the thread.
Finally, did you take something you learned form the forum and get something to work? Once it’s run it’s course think about giving back and creating a case study of your own. This is a community and the more we share and engage with each other the stronger and more successful we all become.
Enjoy!
Case Studies and Stategies
One great use for PPV traffic is to build a list. You’ve heard the money is in the list right? It’s true! Through building a list, you gain customers you can market to over and over again.
So many affiliates get focused on sending traffic directly to offers. That can work well, but you lose the ability to ever market to those customers again. Since you’re a member of this forum, I know you see the value in building long term assets. Affiliate marketing is full of ups and downs, so anything you can do to build an actual asset is awesome.
How is a list an asset? An asset is something you can do something with right? You could market to your list through an autoresponder, you can rent or even sell your list. You can do any of those things when you play the affiliate arbitrage game of sending traffic to offers.
This lesson is going to show you how to build a massive email list using PPV traffic. List building isn’t a ‘quick’ strategy, so don’t lose sight of the final goal. It’s possible to break even or even profit while building a list but if you’re spending more than you’re making right away, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You have to think of this as an investment. The payoff is great, but you must be willing to put the time and money into building the list to have it pay off.
Affiliates are notoriously short sighted. The chase after the next hot thing all the time, and it always comes back to bite them in the end. Put some time into building your list and you’ll have a steady stream of income while other affiliates are busy chasing their tail.
The Tools
You need an ESP (email service provider) to collect your opt-ins and send emails. An ESP handles the collecting of the emails on your LP. From your ESP you can send emails and set up an autoresponder. An autoresponder is a series of emails you set up ahead of time that get sent to your list once someone opts in.
You’ve probably been subscribed to an autoresponder before. It’s a series of emails someone writes so that when someone subscribes to their list, they get automatically sent a series of emails. You can still send one time emails anytime through your ESP, but an autoresponder is essential to save you time.
I recommend Aweber for your ESP. There are other choices, but Aweber allows affiliate marketing, they’re easy to use, and have good deliverability (the ability to get your email to someone’s inbox and avoid the spam filter). Some ESP’s don’t allow affiliate marketing (like Mailchimp) so if you use another ESP make sure to read their terms and conditions.
Your ESP will give you some code for your opt-in form. This is placed on your LP. This lesson will show you how to easily create an opt in landing page http://www.affplaybook.com/forum/sho…Aff-Robot-LP-s
The Lead Magnet
A lead magnet is a form of a bribe to get someone’s email address. You offer them something irresistible in exchange for opting in to your list.
If you want someone to subscribe to your list, you need to give them a compelling reason to do so. Think about why you would subscribe to a mailing list. What about it would make you want to hand over your email?
Your lead magnet must offer value quickly. Don’t worry about writing some lengthy ebook or report. These are usually too boring and general to peak someone’s interest quickly. Ideally, your lead magnet should be easy to consume content. This is great news because it’s much easier to create these types of lead magnets than the traditional ebook/report many people write.
Here are some successful lead magnet examples from my own campaigns:
1. Free report – 5 steps to effortless weight loss
Yes, this is a ‘report’ but it’s really just a quick 5 steps to losing weight and not anything too lengthy. People loved numbered reports like ‘the 5 tools you must use’ or ‘the 3 things you should avoid..’.
These are appealing because they’re super easy for the customer to read and digest. People want information fast. People would rather read 5 quick tips vs a full length book. More importantly, most people will finish a quick ‘5 step’ report vs a long book.
If you use this type of lead magnet, a great way to increase your opt in rate is to mention a specific number like this:
“Free report reveals 5 steps to effortless weight loss. You’ll notice a difference from #3immediately”
or
“Free report reveals 5 steps to effortless weight loss. You won’t believe #2 actually works!”
These kind of phrases peak curiosity and can dramatically increase your opt in rate.
2. Cheat sheets, diagrams, or mindmaps
People love any kind of cheat sheet, diagram, or mindmap that shows a clear solution to their problem. These are easy, and even kinda fun to make. You don’t need to go overboard here, just something simple will work.
To create these I use:
3. Lists
People can read lists quickly, which makes them great lead magnets. Some examples:
“The top 5 beach destinations you must see”
“The 10 tools I use to grow my business every day”
“10 Foods you should eat every day”
“The 10 tools I use to grow my business every day”
“10 Foods you should eat every day”
4. Plans
Ready to be printed plans can save people time, which makes them attractive to your customer. Example:
“The 5 step weight loss checklist”
“The simple plan to reduce sugar cravings”
“The simple plan to reduce sugar cravings”
The Setup
Here’s how I set up my list building with PPV traffic:
1. User arrives at my landing page and opts-in
2. After opt-ing in they are taken to a thank you page that looks like this:
2. After opt-ing in they are taken to a thank you page that looks like this:

That’s just the ‘coupon’ style LP template from Aff Robot. I simply created the LP in Aff Robot, uploaded it to my server and set it as my ‘thank you’ page in Aweber.
On that LP you’ll notice I ask people to confirm their subscription, and I also try to get them clicking through to an offer. This way I can get the opt-in and potentitally convert them at the same time. This is when you can break even, or profit while building your list.
3. The first email they get is my lead magnet. Remember, this doesn’t have to be a downloadable PDF. You can simple write your lead magnet in the first email. I’ve tested it both ways, and both can work.
After they receive my lead magnet, they start on my autoresponder. Here’s an example of how I set this up:
Day 1 Email 1: Lead Magnet
Day 2 Email 2: Did you get the lead magnet? (This asks if they got the lead magnet, and includes a couple paragraphs why the lead magnet is so important to them)
Day 4 Email 3: Offer. When I mail offers, I write a short paragraph about the offer and try to tie it back into my lead magnet. For example, if my lead magnet was “5 steps to effortless weight loss” I would reference back to that. I might talk about how this offer I’m promoting fits perfectly with step 3 of the plan. This is important because you’re making the lead magnet more important by giving a specific, actionable solution they can use to put the plan into action. Don’t just email and say “Click here for a good offer”. I see people do that all the time, then wonder why their list never converts.
(Sent every 3rd day) Email 4-8: Repeat the above process
From here on, I’ll mail every 5-7 days.
Email 9: Mail a semi related offer. Up until this point, I’ve been mailing offers that were very specific to my niche/lead magnet. With email 9, I start testing the waters with semi related offers. If my niche was weight loss and I had been mailing diet products, I might try promoting Yoga. It’s in the same broad area of ‘health’, but not as specific as what I’ve been mailing.
Email 10-12: Same as email 9
By this point, I should know if my list is going to convert on any related offers. The last few emails were a test to see if I should go in a specific direction. One important note about this – I wouldn’t make any judgements until my list was at least 500 subscribers. Meaning, if your list is only 20 people you can’t say ‘yeah this yoga offer worked’. Until your list is 500+ just follow the plan without analyzing it too much.
Email 13-15: Back to promoting very specific offers (like in emails 3-8).
This is all I write when I first build my list, until I reach 500 subscribers. I haven’t found it worth the time to write a longer autoresponder series right away. Most of my effort should go into getting my numbers up.
From email 16 on, I promote specific offers or semi related offers that converted well for me. You don’t have to write a 100 long autoresponder series because your ultimate goal should be to monetize the list with your own product/offer. This is an example of that http://www.affplaybook.com/forum/sho…ng-Income-What!
You don’t HAVE to build your own product, but I’ve found that to be the most stable and profitable thing you can do with your list. Even if it’s an inexpensive continuity product like the case study I just linked, you can do VERY well.
A note about writing – you don’t have to be a great writer to convert your list. Some of people I follow who monetize their list very well, aren’t great writers themselves. Don’t let this part stop you from doing this project. Head over to our copywriting section – it has everything you need to write winning emails.
Targeting
This is where it gets good. You can go really broad on your targeting, because you’re not trying to match your targets to a specific offer. Imagine you’re promoting a skincare offer where the product is for reducing wrinkles. You would start off targeting sites about skincare products that reduced wrinkles.
With this list building strategy, you’re not locked into those targets anymore. If you built your list with the lead magnet “the top 5 skincare secrets” you could bid on targets like:
skincare
cosmetics
wrinkles
etc.
cosmetics
wrinkles
etc.
You can certainly do URLS’s too..I’m just saying that you can go really broad with your keyowrd/URL selection. As long as it’s related to the niche you’re building a list in, it can work great.
Remember, you’re not asking someone to pull out their credit card or even fill out a lead form. You’re simply asking for their email address. That’s much easier to convert than an offer, so your targeting doesn’t have to be as exact.
Another exciting thing about this approach is that you can virtually create your own niche. You might not find a ton of offers for ‘vegan recipes’ to promote, but you can build a list around that niche then monetize it with cooking tools, books, etc. Take this point to heart, because that’s really where the potential is here.
Sure, you can still do well with the “5 weight loss secrets”, but I believe there is more opportunity in these niches that don’t have a million CPA offers readily available. Get creative and you’ll go far. To prove this point, here are a few examples of converting lists I currently have:
Home repair
Vegan baking
Natural skincare products
Uses for coconut oil
5 herbs you can grow in your kitchen
Vegan baking
Natural skincare products
Uses for coconut oil
5 herbs you can grow in your kitchen
I have no shortage of ways to monetize these lists between CPA networks, Shareasale, Amazon, or even linking them back to my site with Adsense ads.
There you have it. Everything you need to know to start building your lists with PPV traffic. My approach is to build a greater number of smaller lists. I don’t go for 1 weight loss list with 500,000 subscribers. I build smaller lists and focus on getting them as responsive as possible through my autoresponders. You don’t need a big list to do big numbers. Some of my highest grossing lists are under 1,000 subscribers.
This lesson is going to be about going at things from a slightly differen’t angle than we have talked about before. Instead of testing a good number of targets, we are going to do the exact opposite and focus on one high volume target.
Basically what we are going to be doing is picking one high traffic URL or keyword and rotating offers on it until we find a winner.
Step 1 – Pick your target
Yes, target…just one. I would stay away from the very highest volume targets like ‘google’ obviously. I would also recommend avoiding most of the very top high traffic sites you will find.
Here is a place to start – http://www.affplaybook.com/forum/pic/tv500.xls
Those are the top 500 Traffic Vance targets from a couple months back. Don’t worry if your not in Traffic Vance, these will work for any PPV network.
Where else can you find high traffic targets?
http://www.alexa.com/topsites/category (browse the categories instead of just the top sites list)
There is really no magic to picking a target. Just chose one with medium-high traffic volume. If you can find something that is easy to identify the demographic on you might have an easier time.
Step 2 – Pick your offers
Notice I said offers, not offer. You need a lot of offers to make this work. There is no magic number but just so you have something to go by, start with at least 5 offers. I would also strongly suggest you have another 5-10 or more ready to throw in the mix. Revisit the lessons on demographics for some ideas on what offers to promote. Also, make sure to just take a minute to think about what might work well for your target URL.
For example, say you pick a high volume target related to scholarships. Obviously you could run some scholarship offers on it, but what do people need if they are looking for scholarships? Money! You could promote any number of financial type offers or freebies. Don’t get too locked in this way of thinking though. This technique is really about rotating all kinds of different offers on a high volume target and seeing what works. What I’m saying is – Don’t be afraid to test any offer.
LP or Direct Link?
You can and should test both, there isn’t a ‘best’. I like using LP’s with this technique because you can customize them so they look similar to the site you are targeting or use some text ‘welcoming visitors of thetarget.com
Bidding strategy
You don’t need to bid into first position but you need to stay in a high enough position that you can get good volume. This is going ti be different for each target but try starting your bids on the low side (like position 4-5 or lower) and see how much traffic you get. If your not getting enough traffic, just keep increasing your bid until you are getting a good flow of traffic. Every time you adjust your bid, experiment with leaving it (your bid) alone for 24-48 hours. Don’t just keep increasing if you aren’t seeing traffic in an hour or anything…traffic can come in waves depending on the budget and frequency cap of the bidders ahead of you.
Step 3 – Rotate and test
There are a couple ways to rotate. You can rotate offers through Prosper or by using PHP.
When you rotate offers, you need to make sure each one gets enough views before you cut it off. If you want a general guideline, spend 2-3x the offer payout on each offer. If you don’t have a conversion, kill it..if you do let it run a little longer. If you have multiple offers that are converting but no clear winner, you need to let it run longer and get more data. If you notice one type of offer (niche, style of offer page, etc) working well on a target, pick some more offers like those and throw them into your rotation.

Strategy
Focus on one URL/keyword at a time. You will want to focus on one campaign at a time also until you get some experience with this technique. When to kill a URL/keyword and try a new one is tough to answer. The answer (that many won’t like to hear) is that you might need to spend a lot on a URL/keyword to test different offers/landing pages before finding a winning combination or cutting it off. When to cut off a target will be partly determined by your budget but I would say (just for those who want a number to go off) that you should test a minimum of 5-10 offers before deciding it’s a dud. Even then, its kind of subjective because you might have lost money but seen some conversions. If you see some conversions, even if you’ve lost money, I would keep working with it and see what you can do to make it profitable.
You might be wondering about the title…well…I decided that these techniques we talk about should have interesting names. Why? I don’t know it just sounded fun lol
I realized we didn’t have an official lesson about bidding on the offer URL so that’s what this is about.
Step 1 – Pick Your Offer
For this technique don’t worry about picking the right offer…you are going to test lots and lots of offers so just pull a list of 10-20 offers that accept PPV traffic from your CPA network and copy your affiliate links into a spreadsheet or file. We are going to be direct linking these offers.
Step 2 – Choose Your Targets
Step 2 – Choose Your Targets
Visit your affiliate link and write down the offer URL.
For example my Neverblue affiliate link for the Vista Print offer resolves to:
Just take the vistaprint.com part, that’s all we need.
Now come up with as many variations of that domain name as you can;
vistaprint.com
.vistaprint.com
vistaprint com
vistaprintcom
.vistaprint com
.vistaprintcom
vistaprint
vista print
vista print com
etc
.vistaprint.com
vistaprint com
vistaprintcom
.vistaprint com
.vistaprintcom
vistaprint
vista print
vista print com
etc
These are going to be your only targets. I normally don’t use Prosper to track this, I simply use network sub id’s. The reason is that it is faster to set up this way, and since I am only bidding on a very small number of targets I just find it to be easier all around.
Bidding Strategy
Bid into the first position by as little as you can. Don’t hit the ‘make my bid highest’ option because this will actually raise your bid more than you need to. For example if the bid is $0.0310 you can bid $0.0320 (it’s not like this for every network, this example uses Traffic Vance).
Set your frequency cap to 72 hours. You are probably going to have to go in several times per day and keep bidding into position 1. After 1-2 days you will see conversions start to die off. When you see this happen, pause your campaign and let the other people bid war it out for a while. Jump back in a week or so later and bid into position 1, letting it run another few days. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Launching Strategy
Ok so the idea with this is not to launch 1 or 2 campaigns…the idea is to launch 10, 20, 30, 40 at a time. Some of these won’t work so the idea is to test them quickly. Spend 1-2x the offer payout for a higher paying offer of say $10-30 and 3-4x the offer payout for a lower paying offer of say $5. These are really general guidelines.
That’s really all there is to this technique. I have one additional tip I am going to reveal about this in the next lesson but take this and run with it.
I want to really stress this point – don’t just launch 1-2 of these…take a list of at least 10 and launch them. You will get really fast at this and be able to launch 10 or so in less than 20 minutes.
The latest case study I posted using this technique made me $40 in a day. Imagine if I had 100 of these campaigns running.
*Some networks and offers don’t allow this method. Make sure you find out before you try it out.

Pay per call on PPV!? Yes, you read that right. This is a little bit of a grey area so just keep that in mind.
Pay per call on PPV has tons of possibilities. Think about being able to pop a phone number up on any target, and hopefully you’ll start to realize how powerful this could be.
The idea here is that I’m going to be popping a landing page with a phone number on it.
The Niche
First, I picked my offer which was about getting STD tested. The commission structure is as follows:
$5 / call over 2 minutes duration
$6 / call over 5 minutes duration
$7 / call over 8 minutes duration
Targets
$6 / call over 5 minutes duration
$7 / call over 8 minutes duration
Targets
I started out with a list of about 150 targets. I’m in a good mood today, so here are the converting targets I ended up with…
stdtestexpress.com
stdalert.com
getstdtested.com
stdtestingservices.com
discountstdtesting.com
stdalert.com
getstdtested.com
stdtestingservices.com
discountstdtesting.com
+ variations of those
Think about how many potential targets there are for this though:
– Informational sites about each STD
– Sites about specific STD treatment
– Location specific clinics, etc.
– Sites about specific STD treatment
– Location specific clinics, etc.
In short, there are a TON of targets that this case study only scratched the surface of.
The Landing Page
This was my basic landing page. Now, you can of course have a regular call to action too. At first I tested it with the phone number and a call to action for users to click. I was about breaking even, so I decided to take the CTA off just to see what would happen. This is when I became profitable. I can only guess it was partially because people had to call to get any more information.

Tracking
You might be wondering how to track this. As mentioned in this post you can use a ring pool to map keywords to phone numbers. Alternatively, you can set separate numbers for each group of targets.
Results
Over a period of a little over 1 month:
Gross commissions $1079
Traffic cost $342
Net Profit $737
Traffic cost $342
Net Profit $737
Not bad. I set out to only run this campaign enough to get it profitable knowing I would give it away as a case study. Remember, don’t copy this campaign exactly…that’s probably not going to work (especially considering all the people who will do that now). Use the concepts and ideas from this campaign to make it your own.
I actually didn’t think this would work when I first started it (you’ll see why later). I’m glad I decided to test it though because I’ve scaled variations of this idea into very profitable campaigns.
* If you don’t know what content locking is, here’s a lesson I did a while back. In a nutshell, you have some type of content (a video, an ebook, etc) on a page, but when someone visits your page they see a message pop up that they need to fill out an offer to see the content. Once they complete an offer, the script grants them access to the page.
There are different solutions for content locking, from networks like LeadBolt and Blamads to stand alone scripts/wordpress plugins that let you lock content.
The idea for this campaign was to content lock lyric sties. Lyric keywords get TONS of searches and some of the sites are pretty high traffic. The problem is, lyric sites are free – you Google some lyrics, lick on a site and see what you want. I wanted to figure out some way to actually content lock lyrics.
I couldn’t come up with any great ideas. Why would someone fill out an offer to get access to lyrics when they are on a free lyric site? My lack of any stokes of genius led me to just try the idea as is.
The Landing Page
There were a couple of variations I tried. First, I just tried a page with lyrics on it and locked it. I stuck with short form, easy to convert offers like short form submits.
The next variation I tried was the same thing but on a blog. This actually ended up working the best. I think because it looked more like a big site.
Targeting
This is going to sound a little odd, and it is
First Attempt

First Attempt
At first, I was building a page with a specific song’s lyrics and targeting that song (with keywords). There wasn’t enough volume to make this a viable strategy really.
Second Attempt
Next, I wanted to see what would happen if I bid on high traffic lyric sites (like azlyrics.com) but sent them to my page with one song. This again pretty much bombed because the landing page wasn’t really targeted to the general lyric site.
Third Attempt
My next attempt was to take the most popular or searched for lyrics and build pages around those, then either target the song names or the generic lyric site. This didn’t work either.
Finally, because I was getting a little frustrated, I built a page that just said ‘Thank you! Get all the lyrics you want at sitename.com’ (using dynamic target insertion) and locked it with a gateway looking something like this

Results
I was able to get positive ROI pretty quickly using this method (in the 50-200% range). The really cool thing is that this gave me some great ideas for more content locking campaigns (covered in future case studies of course).

I talked about this a little before
This is a great way to be creative in your campaigns and get some decent volume targets without a lot of competition. The idea is to pick something that is getting a lot of search volume, then monetize it. This case study is pretty simple but there are a ton of spinoff ideas you could do from it.
Finding trends
The first step was to find a trending topic. You can use any of these sites to find trending topics.
It’s Trending (Facebook)
Like Button (Facebook)
This is a good site that aggregates some of the above sites http://trendsbuzz.com/
There is really no special trick to picking a term. Just pick something that is getting good search volume.
I changed the term used in this case study because it’s really profitable. It wouldn’t be hard to find but I don’t want to give it away just yet.
So, looking through the trends…everyone was talking about Justin Bieber fathering a child. I chose this as my topic.
Targets
Depending on the term, the targets will be keywords and possibly URL’s. Some terms won’t really have a URL associated with it, in which case you would just use keywords. Keywords for this campaign would be
justin bieber
justinbieber
justinbiebermusic.com
justinbieberzone.com
etc
justinbieber
justinbiebermusic.com
justinbieberzone.com
etc
You can also do misspellings if they get enough volume (justin beber).
These terms don’t always get traffic, so don’t be discouraged if you set up a campaign and it doesn’t work. Keep trying and you’ll find terms that get decent volume.
These campaigns can be run on TV and LI.
Landing Page
This particular campaign was set up as a poll.

Once someone ‘voted’ they were taken to a LP with multiple games. Very similar to the one in this case study.
I also experimented with other offers like submits, ringtones, etc. Some showed promise, but games seemed to be the best fit for this.
I also experimented with other offers like submits, ringtones, etc. Some showed promise, but games seemed to be the best fit for this.
When you use this method, sometimes you’ll find terms that seem really hard to find an offer for. I wouldn’t spend much time trying to guess what the right offer would be for that demographic, but rather rotate in a few offers. I get surprised all the time at what works.
Other Ideas
Other Ideas
This is really just the tip of the iceberg. Some other things you can try are:
– Doing a poll on a FB page
– Collecting an email
– Making a quiz landing page where someone has a chance at winning something if they answer correctly
– Use content locking. Your LP could lock some content where a user would have to fill out an offer to get access to it.
These campaigns don’t last forever. They can last a while if you have a term that is generally pretty popular. The best way to do this would be to outsource the creation and managing of as many of these as you could.
This particular campaign did about $25 profit per day. Not exactly baller status, but it took 20 min to launch and no real maintenance other than watching when my ROI declined and it was time to pause.
There is a lot of potential in this concept so get creative and see what you can do

This is a campaign that ran all of last year on Bing, TV & LI and stopped about the time I came back from ASW. I tend to re-evaluate my business plan right about the time I get back from affiliate summits and this campaign needed more attention than I could give it.
The other thing that’s stopped me from reviving this campaign (which I tended to do after letting it rest for a bit) is the FTC issues that have become more prevalent in the first quarter of this year. These issues have been around for quite some time however the severity of this round’s problems for affiliates was weighed against the income of this campaign and the payoff just isn’t enough for me to justify the headaches.
So because I am not going to revive his campaign, nor do I have the time to retool the lander, I thought it would be a great case study you can see how easy it is to cash in on some of these larger niches. Feel free to take what I have and use it, but here’s my disclaimer: Use farticles at your own peril. I strongly recommend against using them right now.
Though my average day was around $1000 net income for this particular campaign, I would see wild fluctuations such as $400-$2500 and every now and then I would lose money for a few days. If/when this happened I would pause my campaigns for about a week and then restart it which seemed to recharge the campaign.
PHASE 1
The first thing I did with this campaign was looks through current biz op ads on Bing, Google, and the former YSM. I took one of the pages I saw and made some adjustments to it to make it more my own (however I’ve noticed that this page that I ran is now all over the place and more widely used than when I first started this campaign).

I took one of the pages I saw and made some adjustments to it to make it more my own (however I’ve noticed that this page that I ran is now all over the place and more widely used than when I first started this campaign).
The original domain I used has now expired however I’ve moved this onto a test domain so you can see the original page. Here is the first draft that I ran with to get some initial data:

OFFERS:
here’s the first offer I ran from Azoogle:
http://cld.theonlinebusiness.com/gol…2865-349180499
The lander looked a little bit different, but it really killed it. Then they downsize my AM and I couldn’t stand my new one so I went off looking for another source for this offer. My other AM’s were very accommodating and got these offers pretty quickly.

These are the 2 I split test. The one with the lower dollar amount won heads down. I think that this is because it was just more ‘believable.’

My region was set to just the US and that I targeted only desktops and laptops.
I also use the track conversions pixels to begin with however I found stats this works very poorly for the offers I was using. I heard other people had a lot better luck with this feature but it totally sucked for me.
STATS
Unfortunately, I have my stats on several trackers because they started this on P202 before CPV lab. I also had to spread this across several P202 installs because of the volume I was running at the time. However, later on in the case study I will show you the last round of stats in one of my CPV lab installs.

Here’s what I do recall:
I started making profits right away although at the beginning it was only $200-$300 today. This was quite a good start considering I’m used to starting in the hole with campaigns like this. I started optimizing and killing keywords that were obvious losers. I also noticed that my high-volume keywords were quickly getting cheaper clicks through Bing’s auto optimization process.

The track conversions option (Bing’s pixel) given by Adcenter only worked about a third of the time.
I also noticed some negative keywords that I needed to add by watching my stats:
Google
Jackson
scam

I promptly added those keywords in the negative keywords area under campaign exclusions.
PHASE 2
Because this campaign was going so well, and the optimizing process was pretty straightforward, it was time to scale. So the first thing I did was look for more keywords like the ones I had above and found as many variations as I could. I also added competing biz op URLs. I quickly found some obvious winners including sites that were geared towards selling Avon or other MLM type of sites, but those targets didn’t last as long as the keywords I had.

Next, I added the same campaign onto TV and LI not knowing how this type of lander would convert because the call to action is not above the fold. This campaign taught me that even though I build simple landers with the CTA above the fold, it’s not always a deal breaker to have them below the fold.
TV gave me about 50% ROI, but LI was wildly unstable. I would sometimes make $300-$500 by spending just $30-50 on LI and sometimes I would be in the whole $100+ with this campaign.
I added this camp to P360 and bombed. I didn’t know too much about that traffic source nor did I take the time to really learn it. After I wasted about $500 trying to get it to work, I abandoned it.
PHASE 3
Now that I had a pretty good handle on the KW’s, I wanted to see if I could increase conversions by split testing my landers. I went from my previous style and added this into the mix:

The results were about the same surprisingly (considering the first one was so dang ugly! lol) I ended up going with the 2nd lander style as it did better in my tests by a small margin, however, we all know those small margins can make a big difference if you’re doing any volume at all.
PHASE 4
I had this wild idea to add keywords that were totally unrelated into the pot:
lotto
lottery
grants
etc.
I had this wild idea to add keywords that were totally unrelated into the pot:

These keywords skyrocketed my ROI for the next few months. However, Bing eventually caught on and disapproved my ads and I could never get them restarted. I had to create a new account and start the campaign from scratch, but the new campaigns caught on pretty quickly I was making money with it again after a week. It just reminded me that BING was pretty unforgiving with unrelated keywords, unlike CPV.
I also rotated in some other offers such as:
Loral’s Home Biz
Home Profit System
Robert Allen’s Multple streams of income, but none of them never did as well as the original offers.

Unfortunately, I was never able to get my pixel to fire on CPV Lab for this campaign (retarded I know) and had to do my stats manually during my learning curve w/ CPV Lab. Luckily I had good stats on P202 and ported the converting kw’s over, but I was spending as much as I possibly could on Bing. You can see the keywords that were killing it based on the amount of money I was spending. These kw’s had been optimized for the better part of the year, so those are the ones that had pretty much made the cut.
Notice however that I didn’t get as much volume on LI, and that I had far fewer converting words than on Bing, but the ROI’s were pretty good (most of the time).
******
Even though I’m not running the farticles anymore, I know that some of you will take this info and totally put your spin on it and make a ton of cash. I always appreciate the PM’s you send me of your successes when you twist my lessons/case studies into something that’s totally your own, so keep ’em coming.
With CPV Lab‘s new token feature and now that I’ve figured out the pixel and subid issues, I could’ve had a better ROI, but this campaign did fairly well considering everything.
So fire away with any questions/comments you might have!
The…ah…’male enhancement’ niche is interesting because the commissions are usually pretty high and there are some interesting keyword/site angles you can target. There are some affiliate networks that specialize in this niche exclusively. You can also find some of these types of offers on CPA networks.
The offer I chose was ‘extenze’ ..you’ve probably seen those stupid commercials on tv right? The payout was $20
I direct linked this offer for no reason in particular. I know I have said this before but I don’t agonize over things like deciding if I am going to direct link or use a LP…sometimes it’s just whatever mood I am in. I guess I would say the reason I direct linked in this case is because of the targets I chose. As you will see, I targeted a lot of male enhancement review sites. I figured that the offer popping up over those would look like a special, specific offer for Extenze that was coming from that site.
The targets I started with are listed below. I decided not to specify which targets got the most conversions for a couple reasons – If I tell you guys what targets converted exactly then everyone will jump on those and they won’t be profitable very long. So I am going to guide you in the direction of the converting targets instead. I think this will also help people get into the thought process I used to find converting targets.

So the targets that converted well were the review style sites. Sites like enzyte.com, zenerex.com, etc didn’t do much. I think that the review style sites worked best because of what I spoke about above.
The problem is there aren’t a ton of these review sites so traffic volume is an issue. If you use Affportal you can gather a larger list but there still isn’t a ton of sites.
Some things I think could also work would be targeting;
Bodybuilding type sites
Mens magazines
Naughty dating sites
How to meet women type books/sites
Mens magazines

How to meet women type books/sites
Results –
This campaign made an average of $20 a day for about a month. Some days were $0 and some were $60 but that is about what it averaged out to. The main issue here is the traffic volume so if someone can get really creative with this I think it could be a really good niche.
Step 1: Find the best converting CPL dating offer (with at least $3.50 payout)
You have two options here.
1. Ask. Ask your affiliate manager about the best converting offer which doesn’t require purchase up front (no credit card required to register)
2. Test. Rotate 5-7 offers. Drive RON or Dating category traffic from MT or any other PPV network of your choice direct linked. I use two networks at the moment, MT and a secret one
Dating category traffic from MT is good enough.

You are not looking to make profit here. All you need to do is to determine which offer convert the best on your PPV network. You might want to lose a few dollars on that. I’d spend around $20-$50. You might expect to get back some of this money (up to 50% according to my tests). Start your campaign on Thursday, 5pm and stop it on Sunday morning after you wake up.
For better effect, do this testing for two weeks in a row. As a result, you should have an offer that converts at least OK.
Step 2: Create a Landing Page
I’ve created a simple lander with pictures of hot chicks that look like profile photos, added a geo-targeted header and three bullets with a big singup button below. Nothing fancy.
The funny thing is if you use the lander, you can already see some profits (I did). I guess it is because nobody seems to be using landers for dating offers on PPV. If your offers is good you will at least break even here on category traffic (run it from Thursday to Saturday only). If you make a profit it will be like 10% ROI and it may disappear pretty quickly.
So, I decided to go one step further and…
Step 3: Get Yourself and Autoresponder
Yep, it is actually all about collecting emails. You need a single optin friendly autoresponder. That’s why I am using and recommend GetResponse. Aweber are single optin and co-reg nazis. But I’ve had great results with both co-reg and single optin. So, screw Aweber.
Now, the next step is the MOST IMPORTANT part.
Step 4: Create a Good Autoresponder Sequence
I tell you what I’ve done and what my thinking was. I sat down and thought about what kind of steps someone who’s going to use an online dating service need to go through. I come up with the following: create profile, upload a good photo, select good chicks, avoid online dating scam, write first message.
Obviously I didn’t want to create any content myself, since I am not а dating guru. So, I went on YouTube and spend shitloads of time watching various videos. You won’t believe how much crap is on there. After a couple of hours of watching you gonna puke. Despite of that, I found at least one decent video on each of topics (profile, photo, etc).
Then, I created a page for each video with a header like “How to create a great online dating profile” and a video from YouTube below. I used JW FLV Player to get rid of YouTube ads. Under the video I put a link like “Click here to create you dating profile now” with my affiliate link.
For each video I added a message to autoresponder using the following template:
Hey mate,
Bla-bla. Have you created you profile yet? Make sure to watch this video with tips.
[link to video]
Then go here and create profile:
[affiliate link]
Cheers,
Love Guru
Love Guru
Of course this NOT the EXACT template but I hope you get the point.
Step 5: Add an Opt-In Form to Your Lander
Right on top of the Sign Up button, I put one single field to collect an email address. After user has been added to the list, he gets redirected STRAIGHT TO THE OFFER. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use double optin confirmation. As my favourite dating guru David DeAngelo once said, “Use double opt-in if you don’t like making money” lol
Send first autoresponder message straight away and then one per day for 5 days.

Step 6: Drive RON/Category Traffic to Lander
Drive tons of RON or dating category traffic to the lander with an opt-in box. Make sure you start all campaigns Thursday afternoon and stop them all on Sunday morning.
Results
Some of your conversions will come from the offer directly, some from the email autoresponder. I haven’t created a good tracking system for it yet. Overall the ROI is around 20-30% with a daily amount of subscribers from 10 to 50 depending on you daily traffic spend limit.
There you have it. The list of single males interested in dating women online that has been warmed-up with a series of relationship building content and that pays for itself and even generates a little profit.
I hope I don’t need to explain how you can make TONS OF MONEY off this list later on. Here are some suggestions:
- Review some dating web-site and mail a link
- Go to Clickbank and promote any of hundreds of dating products available
- Promote CPS dating offers from you network (like Project Charm)
- You can even go dark side and promote penis enlargement or how to last longer re-bills
Good luck!
Egor.

Ok, maybe I spent a little more than 5 minutes but I couldn’t help myself with the headline

This case study is about a new PPV traffic source that has treated me very well but the deeper meaning of this is the power of networking and being willing to do what others won’t.
When I first started in CPA marketing (5+ years ago) I bounced around from network to network looking for the magical offer that would make me rich. I didn’t listen to my affiliate managers because I heard they were untrustworthy so I randomly selected offers or picked stuff that I thought would be good. Not to say that strategy is hopeless but I’ve learned there’s a better way…
One of my AM’s kept bugging me to test this new offer called PurePlay. I figured he had some selfish reason for pestering me about this so I ignored his email and phone calls. Eventually I relented just to get him off my back… Instant $300/day campaign. *** Results aren’t typical. ***
After that my new best friend had my attention whenever he wanted it. He asked me to jump and I jumped. I tested every damn offer he asked me to. Unfortunately, nothing was sticking and I was beginning to get discouraged again. There was one offer he just wouldn’t let alone though… He kept bugging me and bugging me to keep testing despite my many failed campaigns. I started ignoring his requests and doubting his motivation again. This guy was relentless though and occasionally I would launch a new campaign just to appease him. Eventually that also turned into a $200-$300/day campaign.
Shortly thereafter my AM left the network to start his own business and we kept in touch every few months or so. There was no insider secrets or world domination plans shared… we were just communicating as traditional business friends would in the “real world”.
Fast forward a couple years and my old AM now had his own (very small) cpa network and asked me to join. Obviously, I joined immediately and since then he has gotten me many offers per request and we have made $xxx, xxx together.
So naturally when he contacted me several months ago and mentioned he needed to introduce me to someone I was all ears. I dropped everything I was doing and offered to help in any way I could. It turns out one of the traffic networks he was using (he’s also a very successful affiliate) was expanding to self-serve PPV and they were looking for advertisers. My AM was out of the PPV game but suggested me as an advertiser to the new network to help get them going (since they had very few affiliates pushing traffic).
Now, we all know for every good quality PPV network there are dozens of crappy ones but I pursued the opportunity nonetheless based on our longstanding relationship. As it turns out this little PPV network has made me $xx,xxx over the last several months.
Without further ado, here is one of the campaigns I launched in about 5 minutes…

For the targets I just searched “garcinia” on AffPlus.com and collected every garcinia offer I could find and threw in the keyword “garcinia”.
Landing page:
I did a split-test between direct linking and the two landing pages below.

The “fake popup” version won by about 50% over the direct link and coupon.
For the Newbies out there here’s a quick video explaining the campaign in a little more detail…
So the main point I want to make with this case study is that you definitely need to bring some unique value to find profitable campaigns but it doesn’t necessarily have to be a brilliant angle or copywriting. In this case my unique value was relationship building and a willingness to try a new unproven traffic source. The value you bring could also be a special way of gathering targets, a unique/exclusive offer, etc.
Let me know if you have any questions.
p.s. Lesson on using Rapsio can be found here.
This lesson is to show how you can quickly build campaigns to test, with or without a landing page. If you feel like it takes you forever to build a campaign, this lesson is for you. Let us know if you have any questions!
Hey All
Since I have taken so much from this forum I believe it is time I give something back! I have been running penny auctions for quite some time, but over the past 3 months I have found a very stable way of making them work for any product on Leadimpact!
Now I did take this coupon idea from David’s coupon idea, so I owe it all to him!
So what did I do?
Well everyone loves a coupon, a special deal, saving money.
So I made a lander, that could be modified to *Any* product out there, which would result in surges of traffic and hopefully good profits.
Here is the lander that I used, keeping to my favourite theory of Keeping it simple, stupid!

After For was a dynamic insert of the url the shopper was on.
Now as you can see it is bright, its simple and looks like a coupon!
So I gathered all lots of urls to do with ipad 2’s like walmart, bestbuy, target etc and traffic began to dribble in.
So I turned it up a notch and picked 20 well known sought after products, gathered 1000’s of urls with the affexpert tools (Lifesavingtools!) and found that many had traffic with no competition.
The CTR for a lander like this was surprising anywhere fro 5-20% and running a good penny auction offer was vital as I have tried many in the past and found that there are a few consistent killers.
Ill give away my favourite 3 Quibids, Zbiddy, Grabswag and the good days of SaveBig!
Here is the past 10 days ive been running Zbiddy

Now I hope this clears some air for some of the people still struggling to make PPV work.
Just take a really simple idea and most of the time it will in fact work.
With PPV I truly believe the simpler the page, the easier it is for the user because you have a few seconds to grab their attention.
Also, I found that a simple CLICK HERE underline in blue text is by far the best Call to action, better then buttons in all the campaigns that I have done.
So yeah, You can copy this if you life, but I will beat you at bidding as I am months ahead of you on this one, but the idea is to take this theme and turn it into even more profits.
I am sure some of you creative marketers out there will take this and turn it into $1000’days and what not, its a comfortable campaign that I know will make me anywhere from $100-$700/day.
Anyway, thanks PPVPLAY! for such a good forum, love everyones input and its helping me excel as a marketer, in less hours of a day so I have more time to enjoy my life and live it up!
Peace Nigz!
Maynzie out

A lot of times you’ll see CPC/search feeds being promoted on PPV. We get a lot of questions about where to find/get those feeds, etc. It’s tough to find one that will allow PPV traffic and pay enough to make it worthwhile.
So…this got me thinking. What if I made my own page of ‘search results’ and sent it to affiliate offers?
The Idea
The idea is simple – make a landing page that looks like search results. There’s a couple things we can do with this:
1) Make each ‘result’ on the LP go to a different offer.
2) Make them all go to the same offer (or just make the page 1 image and link the whole thing).
2) Make them all go to the same offer (or just make the page 1 image and link the whole thing).
I chose #2 , but I would encourage you to test this.
I decided to tackle the insurance niche.
The Landing Page

That’s just an image I made (in Photoshop) linked to one offer. One thing I did was insert the bidded keyword in the ‘search’ box like so.

What I found though is that the CTR was worse by putting a URL in there. So what I did was just rotate a few keywords in there like ‘auto insurance’, ‘cheap auto insurance’, etc.
For keywords, I tried to use search strings as much as possible, thinking those people were already searching so a LP with search results would be a natural fit. All keywords were related to auto insurance, companies, etc.
Results
I literally got 0 results from the first 3 offers I tested. My CTR was good though at about 17% so I kept testing new offers. Finally, I hit one that converted.
My results with the first 3 offers:
Cost: $76.81
Income: $22
P/L: -$54.81
Income: $22
P/L: -$54.81
The winning offer:
Cost: $271.65
Income: $536
P/L: $264.35
Income: $536
P/L: $264.35
You could do a lot with this technique. Try incorporating some geo tags to mimic local search results. Try adding some phone numbers for pay per call offers.
The main thing to take away from this – Get creative! Learn from this idea and see how you can make it your own.

There have been a lot of requests for this so I wanted to show you one way I build and monetize an email list with PPV traffic. This campaign has been run on TV, LI, MT, and Adon.
Pick the niche
I have found emailing works really well in 2 niches (I am sure there are more…)
1) Weight loss and 2) biz ops. I believe one reason these niches work so well is that the typical customer buys more than one product usually. Also, there is a lot of information about these niches that makes it easy to create a good followup sqeuence. For example with the weight loss niche, there is a ton of information on exercise, nutrition, supplements, etc. that you can mail.

I chose the weight loss niche because health/nutrition is something I am interested in and it was fairly easy to write emails based around this topic.
I’m not always out to reinvent the wheel and this campaign was no exception. I got the idea for this campaign buy signing up for the ‘Truth about Abs’ newsletter http://www.truthaboutabs.com/
They have a really good email sequence you should check out. This product/company started out small and is now a multi million dollar business.
They have a really good email sequence you should check out. This product/company started out small and is now a multi million dollar business.
So what I wanted to do was take the basic idea they were doing and make it my own by adding or changing things I thought could work better.
The landing page
I experimented with several approaches to the landing pages. For the sake of simplicity, I was judging landing pages on their opt in rate. I experimented with differen’t elements/styles and this is what I found:
- Having no picture actually increased the opt-in rate the most.
- Pictures of fruits/vegetables/foods, etc performed better than pictures of muscles or bodies.
- Sales letter type pages did not work well.
- Varying the amount of content on the page made a big difference – Too little and the opt-in rate wasn’t great. Too much and it wasn’t great either. What worked best was having a big headline and 3-4 ‘points’ to focus on. This is the LP that had a really good opt-in rate for me. If you visit the truth about abs site you will see where I got the idea for this.

Once they enter their email, they are taken to a page that asks them to confirm.
I think the reason this style of LP worked is that it looks like it could be an offer from any site. It’s really basic/generic looking and worked well with the targets I picked.
Targets
I did a few different approaches with my targets. Weight loss is an interesting niche because SO many people are interested in it. You can effectively target your customer through a huge number of different sites/keywords that aren’t even related to weight loss. I’m not just talking about sites that are somewhat related like targeting sites about nutrition either…think really outside the box. You can find some really cheap traffic because a lot of people aren’t bidding on these types of sites.
Targets in these campaigns are hard to judge ‘winner or loser’ right away because someone might opt-in but then not convert for a month. You are going to have to spend money and get data before you will see a decent ROI. These are longer term campaigns and require some time to get enough subscribers, work on your email followup sequence, and give your customer enough time to buy. Don’t expect to be profitable in a week or antyhing.
What I like to do is wait until I see what my average cost per conversion is and judge if a target is going to be too expensive based off that. You have to track this over a longer period of time.
Some things that worked and some that didn’t
- Bidding on weight loss offer (CPA offers) URL’s worked ok as far as opt-ins but the bids were fairly high.
- Bidding on weight loss sites was mostly too expensive.
- Bidding on magazines worked pretty well. Magazines on ALL topics not just weight loss/nutrition.
- Bidding on ‘off topic’ sites also worked great. I didn’t think about demographics, topic, etc. so much but instead focused on finding sites that I could get cheap traffic on. I actually found a lot of these sites just ‘stumbling’ (stumbleupon). I would just stumble and copy/paste URL’s that I cam across I wanted to test. Hint – this is a pretty good way to find targets for all your campaigns.
Emails
Even though I am not a huge fan, I used Aweber for this campaign.
Since I read about this topic a lot, it was farly easy to come up with emails to write. You don’t have to know a lot about a topic though…you can just find out what people are talking about withing that area and hire someone to write about that. For example, in weight loss a popular topic is ‘carbs’.
Here is how I structured my autoresponder series:
1. Customer opts-in and gets and email saying:
Thank you for subscribing to the weight loss and nutrition tips newsletter. Our goal is to give our readers well researched facts about nutrition, weight loss, and health. Be on the lookout for tips coming to your email soon.
From then on, they get an email every day. I know this sounds like a daunting task but I am going to show you it’s not…
2. The second email talks about ‘high fructose corn syrup’ and goes like this:
Subject: One ingredient that makes you fat.
Did you know there is an ingredient foods you probably eat every day that is contributing to your weight gain and stalling your weight loss?
Did you know that this ingredient is in things you would never expect like smoothies, juices, bread, ketchup, crackers, and more?
Did you know this ingredient spikes your insulin levels and contributes to fat storage more than any other food or substance that we know of?
I am talking about high fructose corn syrup. Study after study keeps coming out showing how bad it is for you, and a lot of companies are taking action by removing it from their products. Still, many people don’t know what effects it can have on your weight and health.
Check out this article I wrote on the dangers of high fructose corn suyrup and how just cutting that one ingredient out can result in pounds of weight loss each year. http://www.linktomyblog/aticle
What’s this? Blog you say!?!? Yes!
Instead of writing these articles for an email follow up sequence, why not save all that original content for a blog where you can also get organic traffic and send other traffic to it? This is like the best of both worlds; you get to communicate and build trust with your readers through email and grow a real site at the same time. Having an actual site to send them to makes you appear more trustworthy too instead of just being the person who emails content and offers.
Ok back to the emails…
3. This is another ‘tip’ that links to an article on my blog.
4. This is when I throw an offer in. I really mix this up as far as what I promote. I don’t do Acai type stuff but I do promote some weight loss products on Clickbank. The way I write these emails (I mix it up every time) is like this;
The first part looks like one of my ‘tip’ emails, except of sending them to my blog I send them to a product/offer. It would be very similar to the above email except at the end I would say:
I have read this book and found it to be an excellent resource on the hidden dangers of high fructose corn syrup. Check it out here
http://www.myblog/redirect tooffer
From then on I simply follow this pattern of sending them tips/articles and some offers thrown in here and there. The articles do need to be informative but they don’t have to be perfect.
Offers
For these email campaigns to work, you need to get out of the CPA mindset. There are only so many CPA offers you can mail and a lot are…well…not so good for developing a relationship with your customer let’s just say
The offers I promote on this campaign are as follows:

The offers I promote on this campaign are as follows:
- Clickbank weight loss/nutrition products. Again think outside the box here – don’t just promote weight loss products. For example – one thing that can hinder weight loss/cause weight gain is gluten intolerance. I might (hint!) promote products about that too. Don’t just say ‘gluten intolerance leads to weight gain, buy this product’. Take the time to explain how this contributes to weight gain, how it hurts weight loss, and why they should buy the product.
- Supplements – Shareasale has a ton of supplement merchants you can promote.
- Books, DVD’s, exercise machines, clothing, water bottles, etc.
- Of course, the best thing you can do is take all this data you are getting (what LP’s work, what emails sell, what types of products people are buying) and make your on product in the niche.
Final thoughts
I make great money doing this but it does take a while to get to that point. You have to think aproach this different than just driving traffic to CPA offers. The really cool thing is that you can automate so much of this (autoresponder) that once it’s set up, you don’t have to do that much work. Throw in the blog and you can get some really great SEO traffic coming in. You can really build a solid, long term income source with this strategy.
